  • It is a great honor to work with Rev. Dr. Anne Egan. I’m working with her on a SAMHSA federal grant on Overdose Prevention for Rio Arriba Health & Human Services Dept. I’m Project Director and Anne is System Development and Evaluation Consultant. Anne led the crafting of the logical framework, thus the vision and implementation plan for the project. When she took me on to discuss documents, she was thrilled to exercise systems thinking and expand the project beyond its early scope of training and Narcan distribution for a bigger picture that includes stakeholder participation in advocating for social change. I considered it a measure of her dedication to the cause that she was willing to go beyond her role as Project Evaluator and Systems Development Consultant. At a time when there was a hiring freeze at the department, she was generous to help move things along. She did not shy away from the minutia (e.g. documenting Task Force and Core Group meetings as well as helping prepare progress reports). These she did by her exacting standards. I love how she adds value to opportunities to help shape agendas. She shares her vast network for resource development, assets and gaps, and building the system step by step. She joins in to meet with volunteers and firm up partnerships. To do her work as evaluator, she likes to get progress reports which become brainstorming sessions. She also likes to attend events such as the OD Memorial March. With her support, I expect that we will meet and exceed expectations, goals and deliverables of the grant. As our evaluator, Anne does not just stand by. In her, we have a problem-solver with extensive experience in system development — who can articulate concisely the project’s big picture and yet not mind dipping her feet to help with operations. We are fortune and we are grateful. Carolyn Gamiao, Project Director, Rio Arriba Health & Human Services Department.

  • I have known Anne for two years, first as a Parish Associate, and later as a retired minister. Anne’s gifts for ministry are some of the most unique and desperately needed for the church in the times we’re living in. Anne has a rare ability to find the strengths and gifts in each person and to not only celebrate those gifts, but to encourage each person to find ways to use their gifts so that they can live out their God-given potential. She is also acutely aware of the fact that every person not only has gifts, but a unique voice. She listens carefully to every voice and tries to create spaces where those voices can be heard. Anne’s theology has become clearer and clearer to me in the time I have known her. Her theology is grounded in the belief that at its core, the church is not an organization, a building, or even a set of buildings, but a community. It is a community where no two people are exactly alike in their voice or their gifts, but where they can be led to work together and build something beautiful and hopeful in an often ugly and hopeless world. She believes strongly in a theology of compassion, but she doesn’t confuse compassion with a condescending sentimentalism. Compassion for her is a recognition of that each unique individual was created with dignity, and therefore, each person has a right to live in dignity. Rev. Dr. Richard Holmes, Pastor, Las Placitas Presbyterian Church.
